What it is used for
[1] Suitable for population groups at increased risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, including the elderly, strict vegetarians and vegans. [2] Vitamin B12 assists in/supports the maintenance of a healthy nervous system/ nerve function through its involvement in the production of the myelin sheath and nerve cells. [3] Assists in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. [4] Vitamin B12 may lower/(assist in lowering) elevated plasma homocysteine levels. [5a] Vitamin B12 is involved in the healthy function of the methylation pathway(, specifically through its role in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine and the regeneration of tetrahydrofolate/folate). [5b] Nutritional support for healthy neurological function. [6] Vitamin B12 is involved in the healthy production/formation of DNA and for the normal replication/reproduction and growth of all cells. [7] Vitamin B12 is involved in the maintenance of normal healthy (red) blood (cells) through its role in DNA synthesis and erythropoiesis / the formation and maturation of red blood cells. [8] Long-term use of acid-reducing medications has been found to decrease blood vitamin B12 levels and may increase the risk of developing B12 deficiency after 2-3 years or more of continuous use. [9] May reduce the frequency, severity and duration of recurrent aphthous stomatitis (mouth ulcers) in otherwise healthy people. [10] Vitamin B12 provides nutritional support for healthy cellular energy production through its involvement in the production of succinyl-CoA, which feeds into the Kreb’s cycle for the manufacture of adenosine triphosphate/ATP.
